UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment
The UNESCO Chair seeks to impact the individual, community and greater society through research, implementation and education. Amrita’s UNESCO Chair strives to promote international, inter-university cooperation and networking to enhance institutional capacities and collaborative work. It was in the fall of 2016 that Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (University) and UNESCO inaugurated India’s first-ever Chair on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment.
Institute for Gender and Development Studies
The University of the West Indies, Jamaica
Instituted at The University of the West Indies in 1993, as the Centre for Gender and Development Studies, born from the visionary efforts of Caribbean feminist scholar-activists, the IGDS leads the region in gender-based research and development. Deeply informed by, and an integral component of social movements for intersectional equity across gender, sexuality, race, class, ability, and other identities, the Institute works tirelessly to demonstrate the connections among scholarship, activism, teaching, and policy initiatives.
Al Hayat Center for Civil Society Development
Al Hayat Center for Civil Society Development is a non-governmental civil society organization established in 2006. Al Hayat aims to promote accountability, governance, public participation, and tolerance in Jordan and the region within the framework of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, taking into consideration gender mainstreaming in public policy and action. Hayat RASED also works on increasing women’s and youth’s empowerment.
